Dancing Spirit is founded on cooperative principles, with the main focus of our work being education in the community. We are successfully using cultural strengths, such as collective vision, respect for elders, stewardship, and cooperation among group members to create a community-wide culture identified with self-empowerment.
We have open media and pottery studio and classroom, exhibition, and performing space where we offer opportunities to celebrate and explore the diverse cultural traditions of Ignacio and the surrounding communities. And we work locally in schools and collaboratively with other area agencies to serve community members of all ages.
MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS
Dancing Spirit is celebrating its Fifth Anniversary - possible only through the generosity and dedication of our volunteers and members who donate 10,000 hours each year, worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars annually! Download a Volunteer/Member Form to connect with us.
Dancing Spirit is a Colorado non-profit, which earned its 501(c)3 status in 2014. Now our membership and volunteer involvement will encourage even more support for the Center to make sure our work continues.
Our volunteers: staff the gallery; set up and oversee reception and other event preparations; provide clerical, cleaning, and maintenance services; serve on important Center committees (membership, finance, marketing , exhibits, events, fundraising) and serve on the Center's board.
All donors and volunteers are publicly acknowledged unless they wish otherwise. Donors contributing above the basic membership levels receive discounts on facility rental costs and class registrations.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
* Provide a community arts center that enhances creativity and fellowship;
* Promote the education, appreciation, and enjoyment of the arts; and
* Celebrate the cultural heritage of our diverse population.
In 2014, we directly served more than 1,100 youth and 415 adult family members through year-round therapeutic arts programming, workshops, and gatherings.
We work to support the needs of the largely at-risk youth and their families in our expansive service area of more than 5,000 square miles in three rural southwestern Colorado counties (La Plata, Archuleta, and Montezuma).
We also provide ongoing support for the work of other community agencies and civic groups.
Our work benefits:
* Youth through peer and adult mentorships that foster critical life skills.
* Families through supervised programming that supports kids in and out of school.
* Schools through programming that is proven to increase academic achievement and decrease high risk behaviors.
* Community through stronger ties and shared values building.
